Small to Big

You know they are growing fast when :

a) They stop sharing a bowl of noodles or a plate of rice with each other.
b) They started ordering 'Big' for their food order.
c) They start digging for biscuits right after a heavy meal.
d) They are always hungry.

You know they are growing fast when :

a) The school pants you bought for them before school starts suddenly became the right size and length once school starts.
b) The sports shoes you sent for repair because it is their favourite, came back as new but they suddenly find that it is too tight and they can't fit it in anymore.
c) All their short pants looks too small and tight suddenly.

You know they are growing fast :

a) When they think you are outdated
b) When they think you don't understand them
c) When they like to act 'cool' ...whatever that means.
d) When they emphasizes on 'privacy' all the time.
e) When they feel having a handphone is a necessity.

You know they are growing fast :

a) When your holiday plans no longer revolves around 'swimming pools and theme parks' but 'good food' instead

You know they are growing fast :

a) When they are taller than their mom and dad!
b) When everyone starts to comment " Wah , so tall already! "

Yes, my boys are growing up really fast. I hope their brain is growing as fast too.

When they were small, I can't wait for them to grow up. Now I really missed their 'younger days of innocence'.

Sapu cobwebs....and teenage acne

It is so hard for me to sit down and write after a long hiatus. So many things have come and gone.

Was struggling with my boy's acne that looks like mushroom that springs up after a rainy day. Tried several facewash recommended by friends. Didn't work, went thru more breakouts or purging as some would said it.

It started with small pimples that just spreaded over the whole face. I attributed his skin problem to his late nights...very late nights because he naps in the afternoon and became very active in the night!!! Coupled with his appetite for spicy food....eer...this one takes after me. Don't say about him, even I can't control my food intake when I was young and plagued with acne too. Ooops...its my fault..bad genes.

Finally, decided to send him to a Chinese Sinseh in Happy Garden.  Her diagnosis is that my boy's body is very heaty. She speaks mandarin so with my half-past-six mandarin with an equally hopeless chinese ed son..I probably can't get fully what she meant.

So I have to boil some most horriblelooking herbs and tasting herbs in which he cursed like mad while drinking. After a few rounds, the curses died.

Can you see those " kumbangs". I didn't dare to show him.

Other than that , I too have  to get him to abstain from chicken, soya milk, oily food, spicy food, lamb, nasi lemak in which a huge chunk are his favourites. Not forgetting, drink lots of water.

In the beginning it was soooo.....hard. I don't know what to cook, what to buy , how to cook. Luckily, can eat pork and japanese food. Meals became very expensive too.. japanese food wor.

It was amazing that we were so 'guai' and followed through for 5 weeks now without breaking the rules intentionally. I said intentionally because the other day he ate chicken spagetti. He sure does it better than me when I was younger. I couldn't resist asam laksa despite ruining my face!

He is now very much better but has lots of pimple marks to deal with.  And also to find a suitable cleanser because I find that even as his pimples are clearing up, he is getting those small headless pimples with bumps that you could only see under light.

The sinseh recommended the crocodile oil soap...all natural and handmade. I tested the soap myself, it is not drying like other soap or facial wash but it doesn't foam ( which is  a good thing...soap free) but I don't feel like my face is cleansed properly. Anyway, it seems ok so far, didn't have breakouts.

I think we will persevere up to 2 months or less...we're going into our 6th weeks before letting him try some of the forbidden food bit by bit.

His sinseh also recommended him to go for facial to speed up recovery but I have no confidence in any beautician that I have not heard of. So many has testified how they ended worst after facial.

Sigh....as if life is not stressful enough. I look around each time we go out, everyone seems to have flawless  skin and we have to struggle so much!!!

Happy Teacher's Day

Every year , I used to give red coloured pen to the boys' teachers. Then recently I made metal bookmarks for them.

Now when my son wants to give teacher's day gift up to a dozen of them, I really have no 'steam' to make the bookmarks.

So this year, the teachers had this.

Handmade Soap by a friend. The soap smells so good that one would be mistaken that it is edible.
The different flavours of soap in this soap set are : Lemon, Coffee Tangerine, Lavender, Peppermint.

Before I receive this loot, I told my boy that if any of his teachers is absent, pass the gift to his previous years teachers.

After I receive the loot, I told my boy that if any of his teachers is absent, bring the gift back for me!!!!

Obviously my son doesn't agree. Hmmm....he loves his teachers more than he loves me.

The younger one would only give to his class teacher because they actually pooled their funds to get gifts for all their teachers already.

I hope the teachers like the gift....something different from the norm.

Friday's Drama

I haven't even gotten over on Tuesday's Drama, and he gave me another one last Friday.

Went to school with this bag.

Came back with this one.

..........................
..................................

..................................................

Pengsan!!!!

Anyway, it wasn't so scary this time because since the bag was exchanged in school, he know it will be found. Apparently his friend took his first ( another blur sotong) , and he just grab this one because his transport was waiting for him. But he only realised that it was the wrong bag when he reached home. I wonder what he was doing during the entire journey.

He got back his bag the next day ( Saturday) because they had parents-teachers meeting. Phew!

Dozing Off

The weather has been so hot these days that it is causing my elder boy to fall asleep on his chair.
For a boy that hardly naps nor sleep late, this phenomena is quite unusual.

He just couldn't keep his eyes open. He will be sitting on his chair reading on one moment, and the next I will find him sleeping. This can happen over and over again after waking him up several times within that few minutes even if he had just had his bath. We first noticed when we found him sleeping upright in the car after coming back from church.

When I picked him up from school yesterday, he told me he dozed off in his class!!! Alamak, I asked whether he was caught sleeping. He said 'no' because he woke up right after the next teacher came in.

So when I relayed that to my younger boy when I picked him up later , he said " Aiyah, I dozed off so many times in class during moral lessons". Goodness gracious, the way he puts it, is like 'No big deal lah'.

Nowadays children......still I hope it is just the weather and nothing serious. If you know my elder kid, he had all kinds of uncommon issues with his health of which many he has outgrown. That is why I am paranoid, if something unusual coming from him.

Tuesday's Drama

Every Tuesday, my younger boy will have to stay back in school for his prefects' meeting. As a result , he has to take the LRT to come back and I will pick him from there.

My younger son is very absent minded. No amount of advice, repetitions, nagging, reminder will ever make him 'error' free. He will lose his things ranging from rackets to water tumblers. I've read about his character, it is called 'popular sanguine personality' ( The Extrovert * The Talker * The Optimist).
He is someone that never cares for small details and the way he does a 'normal' thing is often very dramatic. For example, when he comes back and changed into his usual shirt, he will removed his uniform and threw it across the room and ended up in the ceiling fan. It is just him, the last minute boy and to me totally irresponsible. So I thought when he was nominated for prefect, I told him to take up the role so that he may learn to be more responsible. In school, however he behaves well and the teacher will look at me as if something is wrong with me when I tell them he is very 'laid-back' in his work. He is also a natural joker that makes me laugh almost daily.

Back to Tuesday, I saw him coming out from the LRT Station while waiting in the car. Then I noticed he was not carrying his homework bag. He has 2 bags , one back pack and another homework bag to spread the load of his super heavy books. The moment he came into the car, I asked him about his homework bag....and he goes.."Oh Gosh....I left it on the train".

I was so aghast and quickly took him back to the station and asked the counter guy for help. At the same time praying so hard that some kind soul will return his bag. Unfortunately, he told me the train has gone back to KL. Anyway, he asked for details about the bag and made calls to the train and all the respective stations to look out for the 'bag'.

After waiting for quite awhile, he asked me to go home since no one has responded of anything found. I left my number with him and went home waiting anxiously for the phone call.

Back home, I had avalance of questions. Suddenly, he told me he wasn't sure if he left the bag in the train. I almost exploded, if not in the train , then at the station that he boarded his train? He tried so hard to remember but could not recollect where the bag is.

That night, I gave him a good scolding and told him to fix his own problem. He has to buy the books that he lost with his own money , and redo all those work in the exercise books that went missing as well.  ( By the way, he earns quite a tidy sum of money by helping his friends to solve their phone problems...for that I have to salute him!).

The next morning, he told me " Mom, I think I didn't take the bag to the LRT station because I remembered my hand was like this ( showing me his hand position). I think I left it in the prefects' meeting room. A glitter of hope.....

In the afternoon, I went to pick him up from school. After the bell rang, my legs went wobbly and my heart was pounding furiously. What if....it was not there! I saw him from a distance and to my relief, he was holding his homework bag. Phew! Well, you would have thought he has learn his lesson but I can tell you, he will continue to give me heart attack moments.

He really has poor memory and sometimes I wonder if all the head knocks he had when growing up was responsible for his 'memory problem'. He was a very active and clumsy toddler.

Well....life has gone back peaceful until the next episode!!!

Exam Week

Both my boys are having exam this week. In fact, the older one started since last Wednesday.

Once I used to get so stressed up and paranoid over their exams...but after multiple practises of going through exams...I am more cool now? Why? Firstly, it was too difficult to always stays on the top. Secondly, I left all the revisions to them and either you be one of the top or don't fail ( don't be one of the bottom lah) and that is pretty achievable..the don't fail and don't be one of the bottom part!

While the older one is a little stressed up that he can't finished his syllabus and that there are still areas he doesn't understand ( he's in Form Four Science stream ) , the younger one is so relaxed as if there is nothing to study!!!! The older boy know how to set his own goals and what he wants to achieve...the younger one is always telling me studying is so boring and half of the time you don't even use what you have studied in school. True..but too bad..schooling is what he has to go through in life and no excuses.

When the younger one was in primary school, he will take part in whatever competition there is just to escape going to class!!!! That part I don't mind, because I believe that is also very important especially areas like story telling, chess and badminton competition.

So you can imagine the scenario at home, one I will always asked to take a break and if he doesn't understand skip first and hope it won't come up in exam. The one I will be screaming go do your revision.....NOW, Don't touch my handphone etc etc!!!!!!

Although I am a SAHM, I just don't sit down with my kids for their studies like some good moms do.  I did that till they were in Std 3 ( then chinese became too hard, I gave up).  If the results were far from satisfactory , I always asked them to go thru their papers and see why they didn't do well. Is it because , they did not study enough? or they were careless? or don't bother to understand what they have studied?  I take the easy way out. That is why I think I should really have gone back to workforce earlier. And I always give them the option for a tutor if they really need one.

Sometimes I feel so guilty reading on how some moms help their kids with their studies but me 'bo chak' simply because I am darn lazy. I don't even send them for any enrichment classes because they didn't ask? Only badminton for the younger one and Art for the elder one and have since stopped last year. I want them to be streetwise, and I believe this trait is simply inborn because the younger one is definitely streetwise but not the older one.

The only good thing is they have warm meals and clean house to come home to? They have me to share their disatisfaction at school ...but when it comes to schoolwork...sorrylah...my days of studies are over. Anyway, they seldom asked me also...I've returned everything to the teacher.

Humour in Mundane Tasks

This group of young people or teenagers surely know how to inject humour into their mundane school assignments.

I saw a file on my desktop title "ps-shit.doc". It is actually my younger son's public speaking ( ps)  speech. This year the topic that he got was pretty boring to him. So after finishing his written speech he named it "ps-shit" to make life less boring. When I chided him for the naming convention, he changed it to "useless-ps.doc"!!!

Today, my older boy was relating how one of the group in his class who was doing a 'moral project' presentation caused the class to burst into laughter and liven up the class. The presentor was using the laptop to do his presentation. As his file is in an email, he clicked the email titled " moral shit". Luckily the teacher was quite sporting and just commented " Benci sangat ke project ini?".

Youngsters nowadays just so love the word 'shit'.

Haze Has Come For A Visit Again

A yearly affair....not a nice one though. These few days the haze is really bad.

I noticed that my older son who used to scramble for a mask at the slightest presence of haze is not doing it this year. I have to forced him to bring the mask to school but still he doesn't wear it.

Older Son :

Me  : Why are you not wearing your mask?
Boy : It doesn't bother me.
Me  : How come, previously you overdo it even with slight haze.
Boy : Told you it doesn't bother me.

Younger Son :

Me   : Bring the mask to school tomorrow.
Boy : Don't want.
Me  : Why ?
Boy : I don't want to look like a duck wearing those mask.

I can only conclude that the elder boy's immune system is stronger now. Must be the work of Izumio and Super Lutein. I am beginning to like this product more and more.

I also noticed he hasn't come down with his quarterly flu and cough during exams recently. He has been consuming the above 2 products for 3.5 months now.  Keeping fingers crossed.

We used to buy half a dozen bottles of 'African Sea Coconut' cough mixture every year. For a long time now, it has been left untouched.

If you want to know more about Izumio hidrogen water and Super Lutein or how to place an order, feel free  to contact me via

Boys Doing House Chores

Got my boys to help me hang up the clothes as I was rushing to do something else.

Result? Tara.................

......................

..............................

Just hang up the whole bag of netting consisting of underpants. How convenient!!!!!

Actually, this is not the first time they help me hang clothes...lazy bums!
This unexpectedly came from my elder child who is much more reliable. Hmm....hopefully not influence by his lazy younger brother. Somehow it is easier for the bad to influence  the good.

My Boy And I

My two boys - they are very different with each other. I want to talk about my younger son. Except for the fact that he looks more like me, he's everything that I am not or should I say I am everything that he is not? Gosh...I am getting myself confused.

My younger boy is very 'tidak apa' kind in other words irresponsible. He always lose things and also forgets where he puts them. I hardly lose anything. Till date, he has lost a handphone which he brought to his badminton competition. He has also lost his T-shirt, school tie, containers and pencil case!!!!!

He is messy. His bag is messy. His room is messy. He has to be reminded to wash his dishes, throw his dirty clothes to the pail in the washarea. I gave him a folder where he is suppose to put all his lose papers ( i.e circular/notices/notes from school) , but he will simply chucked into any corner of his bag. His bag is messy the whole year round! No  amount of nagging works!

I on the hand is neat. I kept my things in a fixed place. I filed out my papers and organized them in proper files. My books are neatly arranged on shelf. My boy will just take a book and doesn't put them back UNTIL I tell him to!!!!

My boys is an extrovert while I am introvert. He likes to take part in competitions. He likes to be on stage while I'll turn the other way round. He used to take part in storytelling in English, BM , Chinese so that he can skip class. Till today he is still the same, take part in events so that he can skip class.

He is quite an outdoor guy. I am indoor kind. He loves football, plays badminton, likes cross country.....anything but study.

He has fair and good skin. Mine plague with pimple problems almost all my life.

He is super picky....I am not although not that adventures with food. He eat the same few food over and over again. I get bored with the same food very fast.

He is a natural joker. He can do things last minute. I can't. I will panic and malfunction. That is why I always plan ahead and give lots of leeway whenever I have to do something.

He is scared to be alone at home....scared of ghost!! But give him a gadget then everything will be ok!  I was never really scared to be alone or going out late at night ( cos I was too naive). Of course now with the crime rates...I'm scared too ...not of ghostlah.

Hmmmm......I am trying to find our common ground. At this moment , my mind has gone outer space.

His Dream City

My older boy has an American Dream. He wants to go there one day to work and to stay. He is just so obsessed with NY.

One fine day, when he brother is away.  Boredom sets in. He took a drawing paper and started drawing for hours.

Aiyo....so blur.
Then he told me he wanted to paint the picture. I said NOooooo...you'll spoil it with paint. Use oil pastel, colour pencil, crayon, magic ink......but not water colour. The figures are so tiny , how to paint????

He ignored his silly mom. And did what he wanted. Tara............

I have to say I admire his patience. I can't do this for sure.
